Srinagar, June 15 (KNO): A day after the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reported about visible cracks on the Bemina Srinagar flyover, teams of the Roads and Buildings Department officials and a consultancy conducted a spot inspection and declared the flyover structurally safe. Superintending Engineer, R&B, Tatheer Manzoor while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “ Following recent media reports and public concerns regarding the Bemina Flyover, a team of R&B officials, along with Technogear consultants, conducted a detailed spot inspection. Our findings indicate that the apparent "crack" is actually a joint between the beam for the last expansion joint and approach slab, with both members being structurally independent.” Manzoor further said, “We assure the public that there is no cause for concern. Should any repairs or retrofitting be necessary, they will be carried out at the earliest. The project is under DLP and has been constructed in EPC mode for which the contractor is responsible for 10 years.” The officer said that the department appreciates the public vigilance and assures them of their commitment to maintaining infrastructure safety. "A committee has also been framed by Chief Engineer R&B for comprehensive report," he added. Pertinently, the clarification came following widespread concern from commuters and locals after images of a visible line on the flyover’s surface were shared online, raising questions about the quality of construction and long-term safety of the structure. Prompted by public outcry and KNO’s report, the R&B Department swiftly inspected the site and issued a detailed statement—(KNO)
